Swine flu. Schweinegrippe.

Seit gut einer Woche ist die Schweinegrippe in den Medien.

Angefangen mit ein paar Infizierten in Mexiko gibts nun schon überall auf der Welt Verdachtsfälle und bestätigte Fälle der Schweinegrippe.

Während Ägypten den “Tag des Schweineschlachtens” ausgerufen hat, kämpft man in HongKong mit Desinfektionsmittel und Mundschutz gegen die Schweinegrippe an, die bis jetzt noch nicht wirklich in HongKong eingetroffen ist, dies aber bestimmt noch wird (laut Experten).

Die WHO hat die Warnstufe 5 ausgerufen und hier am Campus in HongKong ist die Prävention für die Schweinegrippe voll im Gange.

Die Universität hat eine eigene Seite Schweinegrippen-Webseite für die Studenten und Bediensten eingerichtet:

Der Universitäts-Sicherheitsrat hat sofort Sitzungen einberufen und es wurden schon Notfallpläne für den Fall der Fälle entwickelt.

Ausserdem werden die Studenten über regelmäßige Emails am aktuellen Stand gehalten:

Dear Colleagues and Students,

You would know by now that the WHO has upgraded the flu alert from 4 to
5 this morning. This means a global spread of the human swine flu is
imminent. Although Hong Kong has yet to encounter a confirmed case of
the H1N1 human infection, most experts think it is just a matter of time
before it gets to Hong Kong. In this connection, we must continue to be
vigilant in practicing good hygiene measures to prevent acquiring and
spreading infections. Observe the following precautions as recommended
by the Government’s Center for Health Protection:

- Keep hands clean and wash hands properly. Alcohol-based handrub is
also effective when hands are not visibly soiled.
- Avoid touching mouth, nose or eyes.
- Wash hands with liquid soap promptly if they are dirtied by
respiratory secretions, e.g. after sneezing or coughing.
- Cover nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing.
- Do not spit. Always wrap nasal and mouth discharges with tissue paper,
and dispose of the tissue paper properly in a rubbish bin with a lid.
- Wear a mask when respiratory symptoms or fever develop. See a doctor
right away.
- Do not go to work or school if you develop influenza-like symptoms.

Auch unsere Hall VI hat Vorkehrungen getroffen:

To : All Hall Residents,

With respect to the rapid spreading of swine flu around the world,
residents are reminded that you should maintain your normal way of life
BUT pay special attention to further announcements from the Government
and/or the University.

To maintain a healthy environment in our student halls,  residents please
pay special attention to personal hygiene and to take the following
precautionary measures:

1.      Diluted bleach has been added to the carpets placed at the main
entrances of the student residences.  Rub your shoes on the carpets
before entering the premises.

2.      Wash your hands thoroughly with disinfectants located at the G/F
lobby of the student residences after you enter the premises.

3.      Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water,
especially before meals and after using the bathroom.  Flush the toilets
every time after use.

4.      Avoid going to crowded places.

5.      If you have developed symptoms of influenza (fever > 38 degrees C
and respiratory symptoms), consult a doctor immediately and wear a mask to
prevent spread of the disease.  Wear masks to protect yourselves if you
suspect there are people who have flu symptoms around you.

6.      Report to staff at the Hall Offices if you notice people around
you have developed severe flu symptoms.

Alles in allem müssen wir uns so oft wie möglich die Hände waschen und desinfizieren und beim Betreten des Studentenheimes unsere Schuhe am Desinfektionsteppich reinigen.

Hong Kong hat also schnell reagiert und hier ist die Lage relativ sicher.

Anders schauts leider in Mexiko aus, wie unsere Kollegen von ILM berichten. Zwei unserer Studenten aus Steyr vom Studiengang Internationales Logistik Management kehren 1 Monat früher als geplant aus Mexiko zurück, da Mexiko wohl bald einige Flughäfen schließen lässt und sie dann wohl für unbestimmte Zeit in Mexiko festsäßen.

Bis das Ganze also wieder vorbei ist bleibt uns wohl nichts anderes über  als viel Schweinefleisch zu kaufen und  es zu grillen damit die Viren abgetötet werden.

Noch ein kleiner Nachtrag nach einem Gespräch mit Buchi:

In HongKong sind sie nicht wirklich hysterisch, sondern einfach nur gut vorbereitet.

HongKong hat etwa 7 Millionen Einwohner auf einer Fläche vom Bezirk Steyr-Land.
Jeder der in HongKong mal zur Rush-Hour Ubahn gefahren ist, kann sich ca. vorstellen wie schnell sich hier eine Grippeepidemie ausbreiten könnte…  einer nießt und 2 Tage später hats ganz HongKong.
